Now for the second most commonly used mono track in a 5.1 session is routed to the L C R Sub Path this is used so that you can pan the sound across the 3 front speakers but don’t want any sound in the rear speakers. Notice how the channel strip DOESN’T have a panning pot, that is because as i said earlier the sound is now routed Discreetly to the Centre channel ONLY through the sub path we created earlier.
For these what you will do is route the track to the Centre Speaker ONLY, and to do this you will go to the output path selector on the Vocal track and select the 5.1 Csub path, which will route the Vocals/Dialog discreetly to the Centre Speaker. The first Being For things like Lead Vocals in a song and Dialog in a film. Now for the Mono Track, there are two types of routing that are used most commonly. First go to the output path selector on the channel strip and select 5.1, so it will route 1:1 to the 5.1 output path, then we should just be able to hear the surround content coming directly out of the speakers.
So the routing for a 5.1 recorded track should be easy. Your I/O Set up should be ready to go now, so close the window. now open the sub paths and it should look something like this.So it should come up with, The Name ( in my case 5.1), The format which should be 5.1 and your channels should as L C R Ls Rs LFE.Now make sure the auto-create subpaths is checked as its easier to delete the ones you don’t want then to create new ones.Then you will once again select 5.1 in the dropdown menu and then name it something simple like 5.1.First you will click on the new path button like before.Now you may not want these or protools didn’t automatically do it so delete the Path and start from Scratch. If you open it then you can also see that all the sub paths have already been created as well. Next move to the Bus Page you will notice that protools have automatically created a 5.1 output bus and mapped it over to your monitors output.Then we are going to set our Monitor Path Preference (Which is located on the bottom Right of the window) to the 5.1 output path you have just created.For the Studio I’m using its configuration should be L C R Ls Rs LFE which is the C|24/Film configuration. It should now show a new output path with the name, formate and configuration, which would have followed the 5.1 Path Order that is in the bottom left of the I/O setting window.Looks like this > this will open a window that looks like this name it something simple like ‘Main’ or ‘Monitors’ then click create. To do this you will first need to click on the new path button located in the bottom left hand side go the I/O set up page. Now you are going to set up a new 5.1 path that will be the physical output path thats going to the interface and then your monitor speakers.Then go to your output page and delete all the previous paths that are there.Next you will need to go to Settings and open up the I/O Settings window.First off you are going to have to open you Protools session.
